With the onset of winter, people suffer from colds, coughs and other infections. Ten days a week, people have to deal with these. However, due to the zinc-rich diet, zinc can be taken directly through tablets and nasal sprays, according to research. This was recently confirmed by researchers at Western University. Researchers say that people with colds and coughs recover in just 2 days if they take zinc supplements.
Zinc is known to reduce the rate of infection as well as the duration of illness. Scientists at Western University have examined more than a dozen studies linking zinc as well as respiratory infections. Researchers say that zinc intake can lower body temperature and reduce symptoms such as headaches and runny noses.
Zinc is the most important nutrient required by the body. Zinc boosts immunity. In addition, it reduces inflammation in the body and improves metabolism. The UK Health Agency says men can take up to 9.5 mg and zinc up to 7mg per day. However, if zinc is taken in excess of the required dose, there is a risk that the iron dose in the body will decrease and the bones will become brittle.
The team of researchers conducted 28 zinc trials on 5500 people. Research shows that zinc can be given orally or by nasal spray to patients suffering from colds and coughs. Researchers also say that cats need to be included in any precautionary measures against the virus. Watermelon seeds, fish, eggs, dark chocolates and dairy products are high in zinc.
