Super AMOLED Display Technology Is Really Super For Mobiles?

AMOLED stands for Active-Matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode. AMOLED and Super AMOLED are display technologies used in Mobile devices and televisions.

It is better to know about OLED displays first before getting into the details of AMOLED and Super AMOLED. OLED displays use organic materials that emit light when electricity is applied. OLEDs enable emissive, bright, thin, flexible, and efficient displays. OLEDs are set to replace LCDs in all display applications from small displays to large TV sets.

Samsung's Super-AMOLED displays are AMOLED displays for mobile devices such as smartphones, wearables, and tablets with an integrated touch function announced in January 2010. It consists of a set of thin-film layers of electroluminescent power-producing organic compounds and a pixel-modulating matrix. Super AMOLED is a more advanced version and it integrates touch-sensors and the actual screen in a single layer. The touch sensor thickness is just 0.001 mm and this allows the screen to provide better images and to have great visibility even in direct sunlight compared with regular AMOLED displays with an external touch layer.

When compared with a regular LCD display an AMOLED display consumes less power, provides more vivid picture quality, and renders faster motion response as compared to other display technologies such as LCD. Super AMOLED is even better at this with a 20% brighter screen, 20% lower power consumption, and 80% less sunlight reflection.

When there is a comparison, high-end LCDs are brighter and more power-efficient than OLEDs for text and web applications. OLEDs are better for photos and videos. So, Super AMOLED technology is really super because of the quality that produces for photos and videos.

Following are a few mobiles that use Super AMOLED Technology.
